Maryland MVA-Approved Driver Improvement Programs Compared

You have a Maryland Driver Improvement Program assignment and need a provider you can finish with before the deadline. The advertised price is only part of that choice. A self-paced course may still require a trip for the final exam, while a remote option may require an appointment, a working camera and paperwork accepted ahead of time.
This comparison covers six providers matched to Active entries in Maryland’s official DIP lookup on October 3, 2026. It compares their advertised offers and published policies, so you can narrow your choices before enrolling. It does not rank teaching quality or promise that a provider has a seat available on your preferred day.[1]
General information only: Match the program to your MVA referral and any court directions. Confirm the current price, final-test appointment and terms with the provider before paying.
Compare the class and final together
Among these six providers, advertised ordinary-DIP tuition ranges from $60 to $85. Some offer more than one format. The table shows base advertised prices as checked October 3, 2026, with AllSafe rechecked October 4; these are not verified checkout totals. Documented extra charges appear in the provider sections below.
| Provider and offer | Advertised price | Instruction and final | Published age policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| AllSafe | $60 | Self-paced units; live proctored video final | Online DIP: 18+[10] |
| A List Driving Academy | $80 | Self-paced modules; Crofton or Zoom final | 18+[12] |
| Maryland Driving School | $60 | Online curriculum; virtual final | Not stated on reviewed DIP/pay pages[13][14] |
| Greg’s: live DIP | $85 | Live class in person or on Zoom | All ages advertised[15] |
| Greg’s: self-paced DIP | $85 | Online modules; final in person | 18+[16] |
| Widmyer: live Zoom DIP | $70 | Live Zoom class with test | Any age advertised[17] |
| Widmyer: in-person DIP | $80 | Class with test in Hagerstown | Confirm enrollment eligibility[17] |
| Widmyer: self-paced DIP | $80 | Online material; scheduled Zoom final | 18+[18] |
| Cecil College | $85 | Online coursework; final in Elkton | 18+[19] |
Start by crossing out arrangements you cannot complete. If you cannot travel to a testing site, Greg’s self-paced option and Cecil’s published arrangement require another plan. If you are younger than 18, read the age and license rules below before choosing a live option.
These are representative choices, not every approved Maryland provider. An omitted provider is not necessarily unapproved or unsuitable.
Verify the provider under the right program
Open MVA’s DIP provider lookup and select Driver Improvement Program. Search the provider’s name and open its detail entry. Check the status and website together.[1]
The names are not always identical to the brand on a school’s website. Maryland Driving School at mddrivingschool.com appears under AAA MARYLAND DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM. Its directory website and phone number match the school. Searching only Maryland Driving School may miss that entry. This match does not establish an affiliation with the American Automobile Association.[1][13]
The lookup lists physical locations. Its notice says virtual classroom learning is available statewide regardless of the student’s or school’s physical location; contact the provider to check whether it offers that service. A county listing therefore need not rule out a remote option.[1]
An Active provider entry is a useful identity and status check. It does not show every individual format authorization or confirm that a particular appointment fits your assignment. Send the provider your program name and ask it to confirm the exact class and final you intend to book.
What each provider asks you to do
AllSafe: book and pay for a proctored video final
AllSafe advertises a $60 flat rate and five self-paced units followed by a live, proctored video final taken from home. Its online DIP is for drivers 18 and older. The how-to page places enrollment for the final after the units.[10]
Its FAQ says you pay by card when you book the final through Calendly, before the test starts. It also advertises free retests. For the final, prepare your coursework certificate, photo ID and assignment letter or waiver; the school checks your uploaded ID against your face on camera.[11]
Its published 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Eastern, seven-day start window is not a guaranteed booking. Confirm when you can actually test and ask for the DIP cancellation/refund terms. Free retesting does not override Maryland’s rule against retaking a failed final the same day.[11][6]
A List: choose Crofton or Zoom, then return the certificate
A List advertises an $80 self-paced DIP for drivers 18 and older. After the modules, email the coursework certificate, referral letter, photo of your Maryland ID and desired final-test time. It offers a Crofton office final or a Zoom final, with payment before the test.[12]
There is a step after the exam: A List says its completion certificate must be signed and returned before it submits your information to MVA. Ask how you will receive and return it, and complete that step promptly.[12]
Obtain DIP-specific refund and retest terms. The school’s broader driver-education rules are not enough to establish what happens if you cancel this program or fail its final.
Maryland Driving School: clarify the payment instruction
Maryland Driving School advertises $60 DIP tuition, online coursework and a virtual final. Its DIP page says it mails a paper completion certificate. The reviewed program and payment pages do not state an age policy; confirm eligibility rather than treating that silence as permission for a younger driver to enroll.[13][14]
One published instruction needs clarification. The payment page tells students to pay after the virtual exam when the proctor asks. COMAR says alternate-format fees are collected after the curriculum and before the final. Ask the school to explain the payment sequence for your course; the advertised instruction is not proof of an exception to that rule.[14][9]
Request its refund, failed-final and rescheduling terms in writing as well.
Greg’s: live choice or self-paced with a physical final
Greg’s advertises ordinary live DIP for $85 in person or on Zoom, accepting all ages. Its $85 self-paced version is for drivers 18 and older and ends with an in-person final. The separate $225 Young Driver Improvement Program is an option the school tells students to choose only when the MVA letter specifically names that program.[15]
The self-paced course has four modules and quizzes. The certificate printed after those modules is part of the paperwork for the testing site; you still need to pass the final to finish DIP.[16]
Greg’s publishes a $10 retest fee. Its main FAQ specifies a 24-hour wait after failure. If you cannot attend, it says it can reschedule you or offer a refund; after the final and completion certificate, it excludes refunds. Check the available class or test date before starting.[15]
Widmyer: distinguish its three offers
Widmyer advertises a $70 live Zoom class, an $80 in-person class in Hagerstown and an $80 self-paced course followed by an individually scheduled Zoom final. The live Zoom offer says any age may attend; self-paced enrollment requires age 18 or older.[17][18]
The prices belong to different arrangements. Decide whether you want a scheduled live class or material you read independently before comparing costs.
For a missed paid live Zoom class, Widmyer publishes a $25 rescheduling charge. That is not an established failed-exam retest fee. Ask for the applicable refund and retest policies. Also clarify its reporting timing: its main DIP page says two business days, while its online policy says one business day. Neither wording matches COMAR’s 24-hour requirement.[17][18][8]
Cecil College: allow time for registration and the Elkton visit
Cecil College’s $85 arrangement is for drivers 18 and older. Complete the online coursework, register with the college and upload your ID, coursework certificate and MVA assignment letter. Student accounts are activated during weekday business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.[19]
Schedule the final through 410-287-1096 or drive@cecil.edu. Testing is in person at Elkton Station, 107 Railroad Avenue, Elkton.[19]
Cecil publishes a full $85 refund if the student withdraws 24 hours before the scheduled test. Its policy also imposes a $25 charge when a student does not arrive within 15 minutes of the appointment with the required paperwork. That charge allows rescheduling; it is not a published price for retaking a failed final.[19]
Live Zoom and self-paced online have different rules
A live Zoom class has an instructor teaching in real time. A self-paced online course lets you work without that live teacher. MVA’s January 2026 bulletin distinguishes the two and says asynchronous remedial programs need specific approval.[4]
For a remote class, plan for a suitable desk or table, a working camera and continuous on-camera participation. A phone you can use to read lessons may not be the device you can use for the school’s supervised final. Ask about its testing equipment before you commit.[4]
Can the final be remote?
COMAR places the alternate-format final in an MVA-approved classroom setting. MVA’s January 2026 bulletin, addressed to remedial program operators among others, approves virtual instruction held to the same standards as a physical class: a live instructor, real-time interaction, students visible on camera at all times, and a secure method for completing quizzes and tests. All other regulatory requirements still apply.[3][4]
The bulletin does not separately describe remote finals, so confirm that your provider’s remote final follows those conditions and that it will check your photo ID and applicable assignment letter. Do not treat online coursework as an unattended final you can finish whenever you want.[4][7]
What if you are under 18?
COMAR specifically requires provisional-license holders younger than 18 to take classroom DIP and bars them from alternate-format DIP. Several providers apply a broader 18+ policy to their self-paced offer. Follow both the applicable rule and the school’s enrollment policy.[3]
For an eligible live option, confirm that the school accepts your age, license status and assignment. A live virtual class is distinct from self-paced online study. A letter naming Young Driver Improvement Program also needs attention; being under 18 alone is not a reason to select Greg’s separately priced Young DIP option.[4][15]
Settle the total charge and schedule before enrolling
Ask the provider for the full amount for your selected format, including any processing, rescheduling or failed-final charges. Ask what is refundable if it cancels, if you withdraw or if you cannot use the testing arrangement. Maryland requires disclosure of cancellation and postponement policies, fees, payment methods, refunds, any retest fees, and class and testing locations, dates and times before enrollment.[5]
Unknown terms in this comparison mean they were not found on the reviewed DIP pages. They do not mean the provider charges nothing or refuses every refund.
COMAR distinguishes payment timing: classroom fees at enrollment, alternate-format fees after the curriculum and before the final. Its 48-hour refund provision applies when MVA determines that a student is entitled to a full or partial refund. It is not a general right to cancel any purchase within 48 hours.[9]
Leave room for an appointment and a later retest
The final contains at least 20 questions and requires a score of at least 80%. A failed final cannot be retaken the same day. A low advertised fee will not solve the scheduling problem if your only available test appointment is on the assignment deadline.[6]
Read the due date at the top right of the MVA referral. MVA warns that failure to attend by the specified date leads to suspension. If extenuating circumstances prevent attendance, it requires an explanation and supporting documentation and must accept them before rescheduling. A booking receipt alone is not an extension.[2]
There is also a duration discrepancy to check. MVA describes DIP as four to eight hours, while Greg’s and Widmyer advertise three-hour live classes. This guide does not resolve that difference or rank the shortest option. Ask about the approved course length for your assignment, especially if court paperwork specifies hours.[2][15][17]
For example, an adult who finishes self-paced lessons on Friday evening may still need account activation, document approval and a test appointment. Choose based on the remaining steps and available dates, not just when you can finish reading.
Keep proof and check the reporting
Bring or submit government-issued photo identification. When applicable, the MVA assignment letter is required at classroom enrollment or at final testing for alternate-format DIP. Follow the provider’s additional document instructions too.[7]
After successful completion, retain the final certificate. MVA says the provider separately notifies it; a certificate in your inbox is not confirmation that the agency received the report.[2]
COMAR requires electronic completion reporting within 24 hours. That requirement does not say business hours. Cecil’s page uses 24 business hours, and Widmyer’s pages use differing business-day periods. Ask when the provider will submit your completion and whom to contact about a missing or incorrect report.[8][19][17][18]
Where a DIP assignment relates to suspension, MVA may not remove the suspension or reinstate the driving privilege until the provider submits the completion information. Finishing the test does not establish that you may drive again. Confirm your status with MVA before resuming driving.[8]
If a court also needs proof, follow its submission directions separately. A provider’s MVA reporting should not be treated as confirmation that every office involved received your certificate.

Book the complete arrangement
Put your referral beside the provider’s offer. Confirm the program name, eligibility, final appointment, full charge and written cancellation/retest terms. Then book an arrangement you can finish with time left for a later test attempt and any paperwork. Keep the final certificate until you have checked completion with the office that requires it.
